GOALIE IMPRESSES

José Mourinho has praised goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois for his display against Chelsea, who are his parent club, in the Champions League semi-final. The Belgian goalkeeper is currently playing for Atletico Madrid and he has done so for the last three years. Since moving to Chelsea in 2011, he has not played a game for the blues.

However, he has racked up more than 150 appearances for Atletico during this period. Courtois is now widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He has been a major reason behind Atletico staying unbeaten in the competition this season.

The youngster made several key saves over the course of the 90 minutes to restrict Chelsea to just one goal. Atletico scored three in response and reached the final of the Champions League. It is widely expected that Courtois will be the number one at Chelsea next season. Mourinho refused to comment on this speculation, but he did admit to the australia spain odds website that Courtois was impressive against the blues.

He also says that a couple of saves made by the 21-year-old proved decisive over the 90 minutes. Courtois did extremely well to keep out a header from John Terry, while also making a last-ditch save from Eden Hazard.

UEFA managed to prevent Chelsea from exercising their right against Courtois playing in the semi-final.

“I’m not particularly frustrated. He’s the Atletico goalkeeper playing for Atletico, and he did his job. The game until a certain minute was very equal, the first half more ours than them, but finished 1-1 which is a completely open result. In the second half a minute decides everything. The Atletico goalkeeper makes an impossible save to Terry’s header. In the same minute is a penalty. In one minute, two actions decided the game. It killed the game,” said Mourinho.
